The recent tests in the news recently have served as a poigent reminder about the potential danger of North Korea to the western world. However, if the US decides to take some kind of action, for once I will agree with them.

The reason is this; if we continue to let NK delay, and try and impose sanctions which have clearly not worked, diplomatic action which has been a joke when dealing with a man as eccentric, tyrranical, and unreasonable as Kim Jong, we will end up with a fully nuclear capable North Korea. Once these people have nukes, it is too late. What can we do against a man who will threaten to attack China or South Korea, causing the deaths of millions? Nothing. The time for action is now, before they are in an impenetrable position. Evidently this action will be hard to take, but it is nessecary. The day NK has functional nukes is a day too late. Even now, its becoming progressively more risky.

The same can be said for Iran. Here we have a man who sees as it his religous role to hasten the "Armageddon", and to destroy the state of Israel. He sees himself as a great martyr for his cause. How can the west negotiate with such a man? The situation is similar to NK; once Iran has nukes, it is simply too late. If an invasion was threatened, they could simply threaten to nuke Israel.

It is difficult with the US's forces stretched as they currently are, and political support for the various wars on a definete wane at home. However, this is one area in which NATO, and the UN, could make a substantial difference. An international force to disarm as a primary focus North Korea, and a secondary one Iran, should in my opinion be a high priority in the worlds affairs. It is not a good thing for the free world to have unpredictable countries fighting for survival, with nukes.

Tonight I watched what I consider to be one of the greatest shows ever made - The Chasers War on Everything. Tonight, they attacked a very deserving target.

I speak of what I consider to be one of the harshest, most misguided, and most unbelivable organisations I have ever read of, the Westboro Baptist Church, in Kansas, America. Before I go any further, I must make very clear that what they have to say they actually take seriously. As I read it, I found it hard to actually believe people like this exist.

On the subject of AIDs

In regards to IED's - bombs that have been responsible for the deaths of thousands of Americans in Iraq.

"The IED is God's weapon of choice in avenging Westboro Baptist Church by blowing America's kids to smithereens in Iraq. And the carnage has barely begun."

In response to a question as to why they protest at soldiers funerals;
"These turkeys are not heroes. They are lazy, incompetent idiots looking for jobs because they're not qualified for honest work."

In regards to Sweden, which allows gay marriage.
"God Sent the Tsunamis that Destroyed Thousands of Wicked Swedes in Asia December, 2004 GOD HATES SWEDEN"

I think the point has been made. I find it impossible to understand how such a terrible organisation can exist. I publish this blog in the hope that people learn that such people as this, in the world today, do exist. It is truly distressing. I can't believe that such morons exist. And I thought NineMSN "Today", Bush, and the Bali 9 were bad... The stupidity bar has been raised by this church, to unprecedented heights!

On a brighter note, WoE completely wrecked them. If you have a chance to see the episode; please do. WoE shows on ABC at various timeslots on a friday night inbetween 9:30-10:15. Highly recomended!

this time its about the recent terrorism laws

 

Its been getting to me for a while, these people who are complaining about these laws.

They say it takes away our freedoms, that its unfair, that goes against democracy, blah freaking blah

Whoever says that have no idea of how the real world work. These laws finally give the government power to lock up whoever they want, and that’s a damn good thing. I'm sick people on tv always attacking the government about the most minor points. Its good to know that now the government no longer has to put up with this kind of bad-loserish crap.

As well as this, terror is a big issue. We need big laws to deal with it. Its unprecedented; hence why we need such drastic laws. Those who say that its taking away from our freedoms and that ANYONE could be locked up are wrong. Obviously the government will only ever arrest 100% guilty terrorists. There is no conceivable way they could ever act otherwise.

 

The terror laws give the government the power to do what they want with their citizens, and I say about time. Even if the odd innocent is locked up and never heard from again; who cares, because we'll never know :)
For good decent Australians like you and me it won't make a difference.

 

For those who say that the existing legislation was enough; that’s nonsense. Under the old legislation we actually had to give these terrorists a fair trial! Can you believe this? These people don't deserve the tax payers money it takes to run a trial, and so it is much better that they are just locked up indefinitely, out of the publics way. As well as this, the procedure used to be so much more complicated, police had to apply for all sorts of permissions and have evidence before they could arrest. Who needs evidence when we are dealing with mass-murdering terrorists! Thank god the police can now just walk into a terrorists house and take him.
